Heather Smith has joined Northern Benefits LTD as a senior account representative. She was with Mohawk Valley Health Plan.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Vermont announced the appointment of Bobbe Maynes as director of communications and outreach. It is a newly created position. Maynes has worked with the organization since August 2004 as part-time office administrator.

Champlain College Professor Joseph H. O'Grady was awarded the college's Edward Phelps Lyman Professorship. O'Grady teaches human resources, business and management courses and has taught at Champlain since 1987.

The Co-operative Insurance Companies hired Mike Bullock as claims manager. Bullock has a 23-year background as a multi-line adjustor and is licensed in several states in the Northeast. He was with GAB Business Services.

Chittenden Bank's board of directors announced the appointment of John W. Kelly as president and CEO. Kelly has been serving as interim president for Chittenden since Lawrence W. DeShaw retired in April.

Bancnorth Investment Group Inc., a registered broker/dealer, and Anne Dunne, executive vice president, announced the addition of Heather Fiske, registered investment representative. Fiske covers the Essex, Winooski and Richmond areas from her base in Essex Junction. She is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist.

Howard A. Kalfus joined Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC as an associate in the Schoenberg family law group. Kalfus served as an assistant attorney general for the state of Vermont from January 2003, and before that, was a staff attorney for the Chittenden County Public Defenders' office.

Susan Kruthers was named director of marketing and communications for the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Kruthers was vice president of both government relations and travel and tourism for the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. The Medical Center also announced the closing of its child care center after Sept. 16, due to the decreased number of employees using the center.

Network Performance Inc. of South Burlington announced that David Towle-Hilt has joined its technical staff. Towle-Hilt, a Microsoft networking specialist, has four years' IT experience working at St. Michael's College.

Von Bargen's Jewelry has moved its store to 131 Church St., Burlington. The phone number is 864-0012.

The United Way of Chittenden County announced the appointment of Kathy Mackin as development associate. She was operations manager with Verizon. Lia Venner Fath joined the organization as administrative assistant. She was with Vermont Development Credit Union.

Antoine Williams, AAMS, of Antoine Williams & Associates Financial Services, has joined The Vermont Agency and Equity Services Inc. as a registered representative. Topnotch Resort and Spa announced the appointment of Sheila Cleary as director of marketing and sales. Cleary has more than 20 years' experience in hotels, resorts and conference centers, including the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center and the Ramada Inn in South Burlington.

New England Culinary Institute announced several additions to its faculty. Marion Hoelzel was hired as a chef-instructor on the school's Essex campus, where she will teach pastry courses to students enrolled in the school's associate in culinary arts program at the Inn at Essex. Hoelzel was with a restaurant in Portland, Ore. Andrew Landry was hired as chef-instructor on the school's Montpelier campus. He was with a restaurant in Palo Alto, Calif. Peter Pryor was hired as executive sous chef for the Essex campus and will work out of NECI Commons in Burlington. Pryor was with a restaurant in Montreal. Christoph Wingensiefen joined NECI as a chef-instructor on the Montpelier campus. Wingensiefen was executive chef at the Inn on the Common in Craftsbury, and held culinary positions at Topnotch at Stowe Resort and Spa and at a Florida restaurant.

Robert J. Burns has joined the residential lending team at Northfield Savings Bank. He is based in the South Burlington branch on Shelburne Road. Burns has more than 25 years' experience in the mortgage industry in Chittenden County.

Citizens Bank announced the following appointments to branch manager. Scott M. Nichols was named manager of the bank's branches in Essex Junction and Winooski. He was manager at the Citizens Bank branch in Newton, Mass. Maureen Golden was named manager of the Middlebury branch. Golden was with Merchants Bank in South Burlington and Johnson. Janet A. Gilbert is manager of the Montpelier branch. She was with Chittenden Bank in Montpelier and Barre.

The Little Feast Catering and Events of South Burlington has hired Karyl L. Kent as executive chef. Kent has more than 20 years' culinary experience with such employers as Harrington's of Vermont and the Blue Seal Restaurant in Richmond.

DuBois & King Inc. consulting engineers announced that Matthew T. Murawski was promoted to manager of the water resources department. Emily H. Hackett has joined the firm's public works division as an environmental engineer. She holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and is completing her graduate studies at the University of Vermont in environmental engineering. Ryan H. Barnes joined the civil works division as a design engineer. He is a recent UVM graduate with a bachelor of science in civil engineering.

Barbara McEnany has joined PayData as regional sales representative for southeastern Vermont and New Hampshire's upper valley. ·
