Millstone Hill Touring Center

Pierre Couture has opened Millstone Hill Touring Center, the first phase of a non-motorized recreational center. Miles of old rail beds, quarry roads and more challenging single-track trails have been cleared, creating a network connecting more than three dozen historic quarries on about 1,500 acres. The touring center is at 422 Websterville Road in East Barre in a historic old barn renovated by Couture in 1980, where he resides. The barn and the center sit on 350 acres of farmland owned by Couture. Last fall, Couture opened The Lodge at Millstone Hill in another barn on the property. Camping sites and a "bike house" or dorm are slated for later in the summer. The network of trails is modeled after Kingdom Trails in East Burke. 100th Anniversary: Chittenden at 100

One hundred years ago, Dec. 7, 1904, Chittenden County Trust Co. was established and given two years to gather the capital to start operations. The founders were John J. Flynn, Edward J. Booth, J.H. Macomber, E.F. Gebhardt, W.B. McKillup, E.P. Woodbury, A.O. Humphrey, J.S. Patrick and R.A. Cooke. They organized what is today Chittenden with only $50,000 capital on March 30, 1906.

Today, Chittenden is a full-service, Vermont-headquartered and managed bank. As the largest Vermont-based bank in the state, it has 50 locations.
