Ad Files and Materials

AD SIZES

Camera Ready File formats:

PDF/X-1a or other high-resolution PDF is preferred for ad delivery. Also acceptable are high-resolution JPEG files. We do not accept native Quark files, Microsoft Word Docx files or Microsoft Publisher files.

Color:

Convert all colors to CMYK. RGB will not print correctly or may not print at all. Sometimes this is not apparent until the magazine is on press, when it is too costly to fix the problem.

Fonts:

Embed all fonts or convert all fonts to outlines. If we need to work on your files you may need to send us the font files. Check your font licenses to see if this is permissible.

Photo resolution:

Use 300 ppi for photos, 1200 ppi for bitmap graphics.

Web graphic resolution (72 ppi) reproduces poorly with quality magazine printing.

Bleed:

On full page ads with bleed (some or all of the artwork goes all the way to the trim edge of the paper), backgrounds and images that bleed must extend 1/8" beyond the trim size on each edge. This extra margin is sliced off during binding and prevents white slivers from showing along the edges of the finished magazine page.

Final full page "trim" size is 8.375" x 10.875."

Type, border and images closer than 1/4" inside the trim edge can appear off-center or crooked. A safe inside margin is 1/4" or larger.

Files smaller than 30 mb may be emailed. Call 802-862-4109 for an e-mail address. Please put the client name in the email subject line. Check with your IT provider for your size limits for emailing files.

Proofs:

Please proof and preflight your files carefully. We cannot be responsible for misprints due to incorrectly formatted files, rgb images, missing images, or missing or damaged fonts. For more information, please call 802-862-4109.
